Sexual harassment is any form of unwelcome sexual behavior that’s offensive, humiliating or intimidating, it’s against the law. Being sexually harassment at work affects people in different ways. If you are experiencing harassment, there are many things you can do about it.

Sexual harassment includes:

  • Passing sexual comment or cracking sexual jokes.
  • Asking for sexual favors
  • Leering and staring at you
  • Showing pornography
  • Asking or questioning about sexual life
  • Insulting you with sexual comments
  • Committing criminal offence against you, such as making an obscene phone call, indecently exposing themselves or sexually assaulting you
  • Sharing sexually inappropriate images or videos
  • Sending suggestive letters, notes, or e-mails
  • Inappropriate touching.


Action you can take


1.       If you are a victim of harassment, then indicate clearly that you uncomfortable with the behavior. Say NO effectively and emphatically. It is more important to be firm than polite. 
2.       Start collecting evidence like note down date, time, place and who was present at the time of the incident.
3.       If you do not want to speak face to face, send an SMS or email. This message you may use as a evidence.
4.       Follow your employer’s detail procedure for handling sexual harassment claims.
5.       Inform someone whom you trust at the workplace of the harassment. They may be able to support your case.
6.       Don’t be unclear about your discomfort.
7.       Build some confidence or practice to speak against this issue.
